Over the Limit opens in the most akward way possible a Battle Royal to decide who'll face either Intercontinental Champion, Cody Rhodes or United States Champion, Santion Marella. The Battle Royal, literally was make shift and had Christian as a surprise entry. The Battle Royal, went pretty fast as the entrants were quickly eliminated coming down to Tyson Kidd, David Otunga, the Miz and Christian as the final four. Seemingly Christian is veiwed to be a face now, rather than a heel as Otunga and Miz turn on him upon Tyson Kidd's elimination. Christian eventually over comes the odds and takes out Otunga first, followed by him Spearing the Miz out of the ring. Upon Christian's victory he selects the United States Champion, Santino as his opponent later on in the night.
After the match we get a horrible promotion for John Laurinaitis, as it transitions over to Cena's side of the story. That whole promo becomes the actual opening to the pay-per-view as we transition to the whole pyro opening, cutting to the first match. The first match on the card is the WWE Tag Team Championship match, Kofi Kingston and R-Truth to defend against Jack Swagger and Dolph Ziggler accompanied by Vickie Guerrero.
Starting the match is Kingston and Swagger, where they tie it up with Swagger over powering Kingston. To counteract Swagger's strength Kingston begins using his speed to his advantage before tagging in R-Truth. Shortly after R-Truth is tagged in, Swagger tags out to let Ziggler as R-Truth and Kingston begin switching it up. Swagger and Ziggler try bringing the tags to a stop, by working on Kingston until R-Truth is tagged in. R-Truth tries taking back the match but the numbers game screws that up as Vickie distracts the ref. Ziggler and Swagger work on R-Truth, as the crowd gets behind the Tag Champs. R-Truth makes several attempts at trying to tag in Kingston only to be cut off, he finally manages to tag in Kingston after hitting a huge Tornado DDT on Swagger. Both Kingston and Dolph are now the legal men as Kingston takes back the match. Ziggler reverses Kingston's finishers, and is saved from a pinfall by Swagger. Ziggler then goes for a quick pinfall on Kingston as the pinfall is cancelled out by R-Truth. Ziggler tries to recover from that only to be taken out by Trouble in Paradise, and pinned by Kingston. The Tag Team Champions retain the Titles, as Kingston and R-Truth celebrate.
Backstage, Eve talks to Curt Hawkins and Tyler Rexs about taking away signs from fans who have Anti-Laurinaitis signs. Following the promo, is the Divas' Championship match. Current champion, Layla defending against former champion Beth Phoenix. Layla is overpowered in the opening minutes by Beth, as Layla goes for speedy counters. Beth fights back by going right for Layla's bad knee, going for the ring post to torque the leg as the match spills outside. They get back into the ring fast, as Beth continues on the knee locking Layla in the Single Leg Boston Crab. Layla fights out trying for a roll-up that's unsuccessful as Beth continues to work on that bad knee. Layla manages to get Beth out of the ring allowing her sometime to try and get back into match. As Layla begins to take back the match she almost falls into the Glam Slam, but rolls out and manages to hit her Neckbreaker gaining the pinfall victory on Beth Phoenix.
Following the Divas' Championship, Matt Striker holds an interview with Randy Orton where Jericho shows up to chew out Orton on his victories in recent weeks. The promo ends with Orton daring Jericho to get in his way cause it'll only end with a RKO. As the interview comes to end, Alberto Del Rio makes his entrance into the arena for the Fatal Four Way for the World Heavyweight Championship. Jericho is the second to enter, followed by Orton and finally defending champion, Sheamus.
The Fatal Four Way, opens up with all men at a stand off before Del Rio and Chris Jericho bolting for Sheamus and Orton. Sheamus and Orton force out the two before they dragged out the fights to the ringside. As Sheamus and Orton manage to beatdown Del Rio and Jericho they jump back into the ring to face one another. Sheamus and Orton go at it for awhile until Jericho gets Sheamus outside, leaving Orton in the ring for Del Rio and Jericho to work on. After they work on Orton, they move to work Sheamus attacking his injured arm. They move back on Orton, where their truce is thrown out as Jericho and Del Rio turn on one another. Orton uses this to his advantage giving him time to go after Jericho, as Del Rio and Sheamus re-grouped. Sheamus knocks Orton and Jericho from the ring as he turns to Del Rio to work on. Del Rio manages to counter Sheamus as Ricardo Rodriguez comes to interfere. Eventually as Sheamus goes for his forearms on Del Rio, Jericho and Orton reappear.
Orton Powerslams Jericho, DDTs' Sheamus leading to Del Rio hitting the Armbar on Orton. Jericho comes to the break hold leading to his Lionsault being reversed by Del Rio and hit by Orton's Backbreaker. Del Rio runs into Sheamus' Irish Curse, and Sheamus is thrown into the ring post by Orton. Del Rio and Rodriguez go after Orton who DDTs both of them, as Jericho hits the Codebreaker on Orton only to be locked in the Armbar countering out into the Walls. Jericho dodges the Brogue Kick, and hits Sheamus with the Codebreaker followed by the Walls of Jericho. Orton RKO's Jericho to break the hold and then RKO's Del Rio only to turn into the Brogue Kick from Sheamus. Jericho goes for a roll up on Sheamus, but Sheamus rolls out and hits the White Noise to gain the pinfall. Sheamus retains the World Heavyweight Championship as Orton looks on to him celebrating.
Backstage, Cody Rhodes is confronting Eve about the Battle Royal. He mostly talks about how he'd embarrass Christian if he would've confronted him tonight. Where Christian shows up to change his decision to facing Cody Rhodes for the Intercontinental Championship tonight. The Miz, shows up for a match thrown on the card while he shoots a promo during his entrance about his opponent Brodus Clay. Then Miz says he'll prove he's a better dancer than Brodus Clay, where he pretty much rips-off thriller as Brodus Clay appears to make his entrance. The match starts off with Brodus just overpowering Miz, and practically destroying him to some extent. The whole match is just Brodus beating the hell out of the Miz, until Miz forces Brodus into the ringpost allowing him to make a needed comeback. Just Miz's comeback brought short as Brodus demolishes Miz again allowing him to grab the pinfall victory.
After a short break, the cameras cut to Rex and Hawkins destroying fans' signs only to transition to the Intercontinental Championship match. Cody Rhodes upon making his entrance he rant's about the Rhodes family and Christian's return. The match actually begins with Rhodes gaining the advantage, only to have Christian knock him from the ring proceed by a Dropkick. As the match spills outside Rhodes tosses Christian into the ring steps, and rolls him back into the ring. Rhodes continues to weardown, Christian by working on his shoulder and back. Christian fights back as they battle about the ring post and turnbuckles, as Rhodes hits a Superplex on him. They roll outside of the ring as Rhodes hits like a Springboard Dropkick from the ring steps. Rhodes rolls Christian back into the ring where Christian begins to fight back. He hits a few signatures, and preps for the Killswitch where Cody Rhodes counters out. After few attempts to defeat Christian, Rhodes messes up and falls into the Killswitch as Christian gains the pinfall victory. Christian is crowned the new Intercontinental Championship, as the commentary goes on about his return.
Next on the card is the WWE Championship Match, where Punk holds interview about the success of him and Daniel Bryan as AJ shows up to flirt with Punk. Punk akwardly walks away, as Daniel Bryan makes his entrance into the arena. After to whole introduction of Daniel Bryan and of CM Punk, the match opens up with them tying it up and strikes to one another. The crowd is conflicted between the two men, as Punk begins to work on Bryan's knees. Bryan counters out, and almost lands right into the GTS as Punk goes back to Bryan's knees. Bryan powers out of the submission hold with powerful strikes, only to fall into another submission hold. The match spills outside the ring, where Bryan begins to work on Punk's back and ribs using the barricade. Bryan rolls Punk back into the ring, followed by the front dropkick and kicks to the chest. Bryan continues to weardown Punk with several strikes and the Surfboard hold transitioned into a modified Dragon Sleeper.
Punk manages to fight out and two begun striking one another, until Bryan hit a Suplex followed by a headbutt. Bryan goes to work on Punk's back and neck again, as Punk manages to fight out again. The two fall into a double crossbody, leaving them to regain themselves before the count of 10. They both get up at the count of 7 where they're in battle of counters and reversals. Punk seemingly takes back the match, up until his Springboard Clothesline is countered by Bryan. Following the counter, Bryan goes for the multiple kicks agains until Punk locks a Figure-Four where they go into frenzy of strikes. Bryan breaks the hold and almost gains the pinfall, Punk kicks out as Bryan tries for Superplex that turns in Punk's favor. Punk tries again to take back the match as it goes back into a battle of counters and reversals. Punk tries for the GTS, then Bryan almost locks in the Yes-Lock, Punk hits a Roundhouse Kick and Savage Elbow but still Bryan manages to kick out. Punk quickly rolls up Bryan into a pinfall victory, just as the match ended Punk tapped out to the Yes-Lock as the bell rung Bryan believed himself the winner.
Backstage Eve and Otunga run into Teddy, talking about Laurinaitis' possible fate tonight. Teddy is pretty much saying about how power will most likely return to him and how even Eve along with Otunga maybe be fired too. After that promo Camacho faces off with Ryback, which pretty much ends with Ryback destroying this guy in mere minutes. Following the match Ryback kicks over Hunaco's bike, as promo for WCW Best of: Clash of the Champions airred.
We finally come to the Main Event, John Cena facing off with John Laurinaitis; If Cena wins Laurinaitis is fired! The match opens with Laurinaitis trying to run from ring, and Cena chasing after him. Cena pretty much toys with by using an Air Plane Spin, beating the ring bell near his head, and beating Laurinaitis all over the commentary table. Cena even takes over the commentary table for the time being. Then Cena rolls Laurinaitis into the ring to toy with him about the STFU he'll lock in on him. John Laurinaitis survives the 10sec STFU game two times, then drowns him in water, followed by hitting with the fire extinguisher exhaust and finally dumbs the trash can on him. Laurinaitis then realizes Cena's arm is still injured and he begins to work on it, by beating him with a chair. Cena's powers out and strikes Laurinaitis with the chair only to be hit with a low blow. Followed by the low blow, Laurinaitis tries to leave the arena by exitting through the crowd only to be brought back to the ring by the "Fired" Big Show.
